The Saint Felix portal

The “Porte Saint Félix” in French dates from the time of the construction of the ramparts. It is the second door in the fortifications, and was less important than the one of the Place de la République. Originally it was defended  by a ravelin like the main door,  but was certainly modified in 1745 when the Community Council had the gate sheltered from the rain and added a portcullis .

Why the name of Saint Felix ?

Because the statue it housed used to be the one of Saint Félix, co-patron of the parish with Saint Antonin. This statue was replaced by one of “Notre Dame du Bon Secours” She watches over this entrance, and as she faces outwards, she gives a warm welcome to visitors.

La porte Saint Félix date de l’époque de la construction des remparts. Elle est la porte secondaire dans les remparts, moins importante que celle de la République. A l’origine, elle était défendue par une porte à ravelin comme la principale, mais certainement fut modifiée en 1745 au moment où le Conseil de Communauté fit mettre la porte à l’abri de la pluie et la gratifia d’une herse pour fermeture. Pourquoi l’appellation de Saint Félix ? car la statue qu’elle abritait était Saint Félix, Co-patron de la paroisse avec Saint Antonin. Cette statue fut remplacée par celle de Notre Dame du Bon Secours. Elle veille sur cette entrée, et tournée vers l’extérieur, réserve un bon accueil aux visiteurs.
